He rarely handles the turtles, and it is always right to the bathroom to wash his hands afterwards. We did have an incident when he kissed one of the turtles. He got lectured. At 3 he didn't know not to kiss them, but now he does.

Thats so cute!!! :D

So do you think you will have enough filtration?

looks like its going to be the ol' pirate theme...good looking stuff any finished photos yet.

wow i wish i had a 125 gallon when i was that young!!! i had to buy all my tanks on my own it was a pain in the butt! thats good that your getting your son into the hobby at such a young age

its my experience that having all the rocks pushed to one side like that will make it a hassle to clean. you are better off getting some type of turtle dock (floating/suction cup style). all the crap and uneaten food is gonna get into those rocks and its just gonna be a nightmare to clean. also with a turtle dock you can raise the water level up much higher; which is great for aquatic turtles.

Yeah, I was thinking about that, and decided to get another basking rock.
I got the tank for free from Joel. It has a crack, but doesn't leak. At 3, he has a 125 gallon turtle tank, and a 29 gallon tank that has 4 Jewel Cichlids, for now.

Nice tank, be very careful if you son handles such a young turtle. At that size they can have salmonella.

I love his Spongebob curtains!!!
All reptiles and birds have and always have Salmonella. It is like E. coli in mammals. Keep a bottle of alcohol gel next to the tank for post-handling, cleaning, etc. Soap and water is always best, but when your phone rings, and you don't have two minutes to thoroughly wash your hands...

Special, congratulations on your new tank and turtles:), but there are a few things I need to coment about your setup.
First of I would get rid of that sand, because of the hi risk of gastrointestinal impaction of your baby turtles. The only turtles I recomend using sand are the soft shell turtles and Fly river turtles. One of my old time friends has just losed is baby beardy from sand impaction despite intensive veterinarian care to save him(2 weeks ago I told her about the hazzards of using sand ,only to have her coling me westerday to say that the beardy had died:(). Sand can be a real danger ,specialy to young animals. Insted I sugest that you use a bare botom and smodd rocks. Also get some plastic or even real cheap plants like elodea because baby turtles use them to rest and elodea makes a fine meal:popcorn:. Some bogwood is also a good adicion to your tank. I also see that you are using rocks as a basking plataform. Please be carefull because they can fall and provoque some serious damage to your turtles.
Are you using a UV light?
I also heard some stuff about handling turtles. Dont forget that turtles stress very much handling. They are not like tegus or iguanas that need to be handled on a regular basis to become tame. So handle them as litle as posible.Hope this helps:)
