Awesome fish. Yours are light tan under the blue spangled scales. Mine are almost black under the spangles. What is the difference? Are there different strains of Jack Dempsey's with different colors underneath the spangles?
Female is just tan that. For the male, it depends on the light and mood. Sometimes when he is feeding aggressively, his base color is completely black, and when he is scared or put out of his comfort zone he turns a light tan. Also when he is at the bottom of the tank, the light turns the scales a darker shade compared to when he is at the top of the tank.
