Have you tried dither fish? Something smaller than the multifasciatus but still able to take as good as it gives? I’ve had Cryptoheros cutteri and Panamius panamensis in with my a couple large centrals. The cutteri are kind of a dicks and they give way more than they receive from the lyonsi in one tank and the melanura group in the other. I don’t think the world needs more than but the gold standard for dependable dithers are Amatitlania nigrofasciata.

Problem is finding sizeable cons to keep up with the size of the 7 inch male parachromis. Right now I have 2 thorichthys aureus with them to try and thinking about getting more or getting 3-4 inch firemouths. I know they aren't as tough as the cons but maybe a group of firemouths can work, not sure. The male parachromis has t snapped yet, but all it takes is a blink of of an eye and it's still a parachromis lol
