Hello mfkers :)! I would just like to share with the forum my very first stand build. It is still in progress. This is my first time attempting to build one, and am looking for comments or suggestions :feedback:. Thanks to groovylime for his post which I am using as a blueprint. And also thanks to Home Depot for all their help and cheap wood.

Here is groovy limes post http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187312

My next step is to paint it

Again comments or suggestions please=]

Looks great but some of the wood look crooked. Will look great after you cover is with plywood and paint it. Keep the pictures coming

:iagree: Did you square it up? Perhaps its just the photo angle?

I'm not sure what you mean by squaring it up. Yes some of the 2x4's are kinda crooked corner brackets only work so good =/////

Looks pretty good for a first time build. The only thing I would have done differently is to stand the horizontal 2x4s upright in lieu of laying them flat.

Something looks amiss about that front middle 2x4 and is that a gap I see just above it? Might just be my way of overdoing things but I would have a few cross braces just to be sure those 2x4's don't move out of the vertical position.

Very nice build so far. A little paint and it'll look pro. Well done.:)

Did you use an axe to cut the wood, looks good

I think you need some cross-bracing

You need some horizontal pieces (front to back) on the narrow sides. There's nothing to prevent your two "walls" from falling over. Also, definitely cover with plwyood to prevent racking.

I'd also suggest screwing in from the bottom. I would not trust those corner braces.

To Square: Making the horizontal & vertical at 90 degree angles to one another. Also the sides to the front & back.. I usually use a tool called a "square" to accomplish this.

Hope this helps..

@Wulfonce Yes I'm gonna put some wood across (front to back), thanks ^_^

@Tinfoilhat Yes that piece came up a little short =/ No the helpful fellows at home depot cut them, then I used a chainsaw to size them appropriately

@Paulw I'm going to put wood across (front to back), and thanks for the suggestion of screwing them in from the bottom, will do =]
