Thanks for the comments! It's a 150 gal tank with a pair of syns, pair of regani, one hartwegi, one argentea, fenestratus, blackbelt, pearsei, zonatus, and a bifaciatus.

no the pairs dont try to kill each other. it the group is pretty peaceful. i havent had any kills at all.

11 Vieja fish in a 150 gal tank is a lot. They are OK right now but eventually they will reach between 11 to 14 inches. Allowing them to spawn in the community is inviting problem as a pair can claim half the tank their territory. Removing the females and keeping only males may work.

all of the fish are 8"-13" and i have no problems at all and there are ways to stop fish from spawning. this is my 3rd vieja community tank and i keep it mixed male and female with no issues.

I'm working on a similar tank myself. I've got a 150 and I plan on going with a sand substrate, with just a few rocks and driftwood. I'm growing out alot of viejas -breidhori, bifa, melanurus, coatzacoalcos, regani, argentea & heterospilus - my plan is to keep the community all male though. I stayed away from blackbelts & zonatus because the overall opinion seems to be that they are the most aggressive. I'm glad to know this has worked for someone else!
