My water has no kH. Cheap buffer?

I need a cheap buffer as my buffering capacity out of the tap is 0. Can I use baking soda? Or crushed coral? I need help.

yes, and yes

With the baking soda however you are going to have to do tests before you do anything.

baking soda will increase KH
crushed coral or limestone will increase KH and GH

Thanks for the info. Is all baking soda safe? Are there companies that use additives?

I bought the cheapo walmart brand. I honestly didn't look at the ingredients, but I'm pretty sure they are all 100% (or close enough that it won't matter) NaHCO3.

Make sure to dissolve it first before you add the solution to your tank. Furthermore, check the pH before you add that solution to your tank and adjust it accordingly.

I subsitute solar salt (a type of water softener salt)from the hardware store for the marine salt
