so i added 2 pieces of drift wood to my tank and the water started to turn green after a week.. so i went to my lsf and i asked them they said to boil my drift wood for about 20 minuets each.. now my question is how long before my water goes clear again? thank for your help!

green? you mean tan color? after you boiled the water, do a few water changes. you should be able to get rid of the color pretty quickly. If you dont boil it, the tan color will slowly leech out of the wood for a while. To my knowledge, it does not effect water parameter.

I filled up my bath tub with hot water and left my driftwood soak in it over night. I did this for 3 nights each time using the hot water.

I placed my driftwood in my tank and I still got yellowish water for about 6 weeks. With regular water changes (I do 30-40% every 5 days) it is back to normal.

Be patient, it will get better with time...good luck!

:D

:)

it does affect the water perameters. it will lower your ph. the color is the tannins being released for the wood. you can boil it a few more times if you want. and do more water changes. if you have south americans they will really appriceate the lower ph

lol yea tanish like tea haha thanks!.. the guy at my lsf also said that's what driftwood does.. turn the water murky.. but yea ill do a water change in a week or so cuz i just did one a couple days ago but it still was tan color after a day or so

it might depend on the filters gph flow, with a good filter it shouldn't take long to clear up agian!

I fired up the thermostat for a couple hours, filled up the tub and soaked my driftwood.... becareful it might stain your tub lol

(wow, this should go in the you're not a MFK user thread)
