if your catbox is is raising the ammonia level in your tanks.... its not the catbox.. the cats have stoped using it due to it being so nasty and they are now using your couch and laundry baskets... so your whole living area being soaked in urine is doing it.. not the catbox....
ive got 3 cats and one catbox which is right next to some of the tanks... all of which ALWAYS have 0 ammonia....
Huh? I asked HIM if he possibly had a catbox just as a potential source of ammonia. I don't have any ammonia in my tanks. Nor cats. I was trying to help THEM by thinking of possible ideas.
are you serious about the cat litter box thing?? I have the same proublem that he has...my kids also have a cat which box is not changed real regularly, again kids cat. please help
lol Serious as a heart attack. Try completely cleaning the catbox out every night, scrub it out and put all fresh litter in every single night for a week. Check your ammonia/nitrates and I bet they improve. It's very common.
Chester was kind of rude about it, sorry about that. Not sure why he got so upset about it....?

clean the catbox
Chester, in a cycled tank the ammonia would go straight to nitrates and that may be a reason for high nitrates if he had a catbox (which he doesn't so it's a moot point).
