so all you need to prevent overflows during an outage is a checkvalve somewhere???

Checkvalves are not surefire. I have heard of lots of checkvalves failing when they were needed most. I would definitely recommend ensuring that the sump is big enough to hold all of the water that will drain out of the tank should power fail.

Very true! Also, check valve will only work on the side where your pump pushes water back into the tank. If you have an overflow box, a check valve will not work at all. For a check valve to work you need a reverse flow of water.

That is a sweet set up dude.. Do you have an approximate amount of bio balls (gallons) you used total? Is there any other media you are using for Bio filtration? Is this the sole filter you are running on the 300? Awesome filter dude... Oh and if you were to add more water into the sump like Zach suggested to grow out fish then your fail safe against an overflow of water in a power outtage would no longer exist, correct?

his sump is a 75gal tank
he told me on ym one night...

btw little o/t.. but i just ordered a 30 gal tank to connect to my system :D

I like the step-by-step action. Thats a pretty friggin sweet wet/dry Levi!

I could add more water but then the bioballs would be submursed and no longer effective. I'm thinking about putting a bunch of ghost shrimp in there just for fun though.

I'm not sure now many gallons of bioballs are in there....i'd have to check some time:)
The bioballs are the only bio filtration, and thats the only filter on the tank

I think that covered it all.....lol

wow just bioball's . way no prefilter pad's of media , live rock's . also noticed you use kingsford charchoal. nothing like charchoal to BBQ awsome flavor.. :D anyway
