thnx man

Right gather around and take note all, I want you all to read this.

ZooYork, I truly do admire you. You and all other young people are the next generation of the hobby, your building and growing knowledge will keep the flame alight for hobbyist of the future for when others here are long gone. Hence why people should certainly treat you with respect and help you all they can.

However, being young is not a licence to break the unwritten codes of monster fish keeping. Don’t fret, I am not going to ‘flame you’ or ‘come down on you like a ton of bricks’. And I am going to be positive and polite instead of negative and rude like others. Yet you really do need to see where people are coming from here. You are keeping not one monster in a inadequate tank, but many monsters. It is easy to say ‘yeah I understand’, and how you will ‘probably build a pond or rehome some’. Fact of the matter is, building a pond is a huge expense and commitment, and adoption is becoming ever harder these days. Simply because there are fish keepers like you, who purchase lots of young monster fish then attempt to give them away.

Whether or not you think the adoption task is possible, and no matter how much you debate the issue, I think it is fair to say it is not a satisfactory dilemma.

We all understand you are just admiring specimens and trying to enjoy your fish, like the rest of us, but you can enjoy them within the limits. Stocking various monster fish into a ‘small’ tank is not with in limits.

Like I said, I do indeed have the up-most respect for you. You are a young man with a lot of knowledge. It is my belief you will be one of the flag ships and flame holders of the hobby in years to come. But you cant be a good example to the generations that follow by holding so many monsters in that tank. Regardless of their size in the here and now, one thing all monster fish do is grow, and they grow big time. By all means enjoy your fish, but you can enjoy your fish that are suited to your tanks. Instead of buying little monsters that will need thousands of gallons, and having lots of IFS and BUTS over your head.

People obviously feel very passionately about the hobby, so I am sure you can understand some peoples distress. However that is no excuse for people to be rude. But I think I have gotten a fair point across while being fair and polite? Am I right?

Hey Zoo just to put my .02 in. I have some monsters that will require much larger tanks than they are currently in. Many people call them grow out tanks starting a dovii in a 30 gal tank. You know what your fish will need in the future just plan on providing it for them or trading/giving/selling them to someone who can. I love your collection and when i see your enthusiasm for the hobby it makes me wish that my parents had supported my fishkeeping more when I was younger. It also makes me know that I will help my son develop his growing love for this hobby. Keep your head up. if there is anything I can ever do for you help you in anyway you have my #.

I see your point Josh, but the big RTC I was going to sell it to a guy but he didn't show up and didn't call to tell me that he wasn't comming. The little RTC is a midget I saved both RTCs from a LFS 'cause they were getting the crap beaten out of them by a couple of big green severums. That is the only reason I have most of the big cats. And thank you for being polite unlike some people trying to bash me for my fish. The fish are healthy I take real good care of them about at least 2 water changes in a 7 day week. And they still have plenty of room to swim until I get that 180 and when I do I am going to sell most of my big cats.

I am glad you see my point :)

That’s another point, you can never guarantee the adoption of fish will be successful and done when needed. Many people will mess you about, not turn up for collection of make excuses at the last minute. The result being big fish in small tanks longer than you expected.

Ah i knew you looked after your fish, they are all in really go shape and condition. It’s not the keeper that is the limited here, but the resources. I am sure if most people could click their fingers for you to get a few thousand gallon pond, they would be more than happy with the knowledge you would be the perfect keeper for it.

I hope your 180 comes soon and you get homes for a lot of those cats real soon. Be sure to keep us posted.

Good stuff :)
