My Whole Catfish Collecion!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd rather see them on special request only. That way the person who wants them can request them and the average fishkeeper doesn't end up with them.I really hate how people are misinformed and sold huge fish. Ok sometimes it's their own fault because they didn't do basic research, but then other times they get bad info.

I'm thinking of the hospital that currently has several potential large fish. They are not benifiting from the freedom to be able to buy these fish. Probably all their fish will die as a result and possibly their tanks will be broken if the large fish live long enough. I really doubt anyone buying fish for that hospital tanks would be upset if they could not buy pacus and iresdescent sharks. They just want a nice fish display for the public.

The real winners of this situation seem to be the people who can make extra money selling fish which are not appropriote for most people's tanks.

Nice collection of cats. The pic with the giraffe cat makes me miss mine (sold him when I transferred back to sea duty).

I'm not a big fan of how some LFS pass off large species to the unwary. But, the alternatives would be just as bad. If we solicit "Big Brother" to stop allowing the importation of, say, , to save us from ourselves, can we be sure it'll stop there. Big Brother has always come up with ways to over-help the public. Another factor is where these fish come from.RTCs,Pimas, pacus, and others come from aquaculture farms. They're primarily raised as food-fish with some of the excess numbers being made available to the pet industry. After all live sales avenues have been exhausted, the left-over fish are destroyed and used in the production of fertilizers. I figure if 1 out of 1000 of these imports survives to showcase a large hobbyist tank then, it's importation was better than being ground up to raise beans.

If they are destroyed they do not have to be subjected to abuse , which in my opinion is worse than death. How about "1 out of 1000" are left in a small tanks which I am sure you are aware most are , including the author of this threads tank. It doesn't seem right to me and I don't think they are better off. I do realize you said "large hobbyist tank" but I feel most find rectangular prisons that they can't move around in.

I have a lot of respect for you and all the other members of this forum but I respectfully disagree with the general consensus of this thread.
