GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER!!! I have a few pieces of drift wood that I pulled out of Lake Eire last summer and I soaked them all of last winter but they still float to the top as soon as I take the rock off them. I put them in the garage for the winter (dry) then put them back in the tote in May of this year and soaked them all summer, They still will not stay down and float to the top as soon as I take the rocks off them..

Am I dong something wrong or is there some wood that will just never sink?? I would think after all this time they would stay down..

Thanks for any help you can give me....

It means that the wood isn't water logged enough to sink on it's own, generally I'll use heavy rocks on my driftwood for about 1

Well that is what I do to soak it is put rocks on it to hold it down.. But this stuff soaked for 6 month's last summer and has been in there for month's now this year, But as soon as I take the rocks off it floats up to the top of the water again..

I find I have the best control with my wood when I've set it in boiling hot water, really water logs it well.

Although I may now be impotent

But in all seriousness, I find boiling my wood helps a lot. I've never actually had any issues with wood floating either, and I got some big pieces.

I had 2 other people tell me that also. but I have never seen a pot big enough to hold them. they are about 4 to 4 1/2 foot long and 20" wide. I have them soaking in a Rubbermaid 300 gallon tote so I can not boil them in there but I have filled it with super hot water a few times just to kill any funk that may be in or on them and that didn't help any.. But thank you for the help!!!

20" wide as in 20" thick, or branched out randomly? How thick is the thickest part?

To give a reference my piece is about 4' long. One end has branches that are 1" thick, the other end is a trunk that is 4" thick. The branches side sunk within weeks, but the trunk side floated for months. If you have a 20" trunk it may never sink.

No it is not that thick it has a branch on it that makes it that wide.. I would say it is 6 to 8" at the most. I can post a picture if that would help..
