My Yellowtail Barracuda Grow Out

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I thought the leopard ctenopoma maxed out around 6" or so. Also my buddy has one and its very territorial and aggressive.

I kept them together without any issues, but there's lots of other options for tankmates.

Interesting thread, Taylor.

I wouldn't recommend an odoe pike. Odoes are EXTREMELY aggressive toward young versions of one of their only predators: African tiger fish. One cannot help but notice how much your 'cudas look like an ATF. A viable alternative would be a Ctenolucius hujeta, the silver pike, or any other fish from Ctenolucidae.

As was previously mentioned, any macropredatory catfish such as a tigriunus would be or would eventually be a serious threat to your silver tooth fish that do their best to look like bait. IF you want to add that wow factor only a tig can add, wait till your 'cudas are at least ten inches. Even with doing this, your time will be limited.

I like the previously mentioned idea of a jaguar catfish, Liosomadoras oncinus. They're beautiful, generally peaceful with a max size comparable to what you can expect from the 'cudas. They are however Auchenipterids, which means they're from the family of catfishes with huge mouths that are notorious for eating anything they can swallow, as proven by the most famous member of its family, the gulper catfish.

I look forward to future updates on these attractive little toothy torpedoes.

I was thinking about that catfish. What size would you suggest my cudas be before adding it? I dont think ive ever seen one in a pet store. Another addition i was thinking of was the cynodon gibbus. Any thoughts?

Which catfish, the jag or the tig?

Cynos are awesome fish. The problem is finding one. They're the rarest of the payaras.

The leopard. Ive never seen one in stores. Ive seen the gibbus before but it was a while back before i knew just how rare they were. Ill give it some time tho and when i find somethin i want ill get it and hope it works. Im currently starving them so they are more apt to take frozen talapia

Heres an update on these fast growing beasts. ive put them into a larger tank 48x18x24 extra wide custom tank with a home made lid. ive added an extra 1400gph of circulation and painted the tank flat black to really make their colour stand out.

I am hoping to get some tank mates for these guys fairly soon. The largest one is now measuring 4.75" and the smallest is at 4". Will keep this updated once somethin new comes up

Well the pellet training has begun. i added 2 3-4" tinfoil barbs that will hopefully teach these guys to take them. i was wrong on their size. the biggest is at least 5.5" after measuring the biggest tinfoil barb directly in my net. this means the smallest one is around 4.75" cuz it is still quite a bit longer then the barbs. hopefully they catch on quick.
