Mysterious snail outbreak

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's my experience with them. Nothing I have kept has ever touched them to my knowledge.
I found the best way is to drop half a coconut in the tank in the evening and remove it just before lights on next day.
They swarm to the coconut like locusts and you literally pull out hundreds at a time.

Ditto to what others have offered & suggested.
Just one slight correction - MTS don't lay eggs or egg masses. They are viviparous or at least ovoviviparous (that is, they give birth to tiny fully developed snails).

Thanks for that info, I had no idea.

So just a quick update and pretty much verifies most replies...
After doing some canister filter maintenance today I found thousands of small snails about the the size of large grains of sand in the course sponges and bottom of the canisters.

I still have 4 more to go and I anticipate finding more.

From the feedback that I have gotten on this thread, this isnt something to really worry about, I feel that this kinda makes my tanks eco systems complete and as long as the fish are keeping the population in check enough to where I NEVER see them in any of my tanks it probably isnt something to try and combat.

Gonna let it be what it is and as long as my nitrates are where my fish need them to be then I am not gonna sweat it?

My "paranoid" concern is that they will contribute to the bio load?
