Mystery cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Although I said it "might" be a hybrid, that's because of all the random crossing these days, and I have begun to distrust the legitimacy of any cichlid in LFSs. I don't really see any overt indications that it is a hybrid. The blue could be the way the light hits the scales. and as Twhittle said, I have also had tetracanthus with a red border on the dorsal (especially when young).

What should I expect with a Cuban cichlid he/ she is with a male convict and a green severum, should I expect aggression problems

If it is a male, you should expect it to grow to about 10", if a female maybe 6". As it matures it may become aggressive (especially if it is an alpha) in any tank under 100 gallons. If the tank is at least 6ft, and has lots of hiding places, it could find a suitable territory to defend, and as long as others keep out of it, they may live. My pair took over a 100 gal tank, killing all others, and spawned.

female on the right in both shots

ok thanks, i guess ill wait until he or she grows a couple more inches
