Well the wild snail quarintine is showing signs of parasites.. Oh well. Mystery and Apple snails have been catching my eye though:)
I have a couple of questions

1- Will these snails be compatable with tetras, cories, and a honey gourami?
2- Will they be able to live in tropical temps?
3- How many should I put in a 20 gallon tank?
4-Which species is better, which do u prefer?
5- What parasites might use them as a host?
6- Will they eat a little algea?
and 7- I understand these guys are constantly breeding, how long does it take for the eggs to hatch and is there a way to prevent baby snails (like removing the eggs????)

Im planning to get some when I return from my trip
Thanks!!!:D

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Max 8
4. Love them all
5. ?... Shoudn't have parasites since most are tank breed these days.
6. Yes
7. A few weeks, just remove them, most applesnails lay above water.

Here is a good website...http://www.applesnail.net/

thanks aqua culture!!! that really helped, I can't wait to come back from the mountains and pick someup!! Oh one more question will they tolerate sand?

Sand is fine. Just make sure water is hard and alkaline and temp no more than 78 degrees. They also prefer hair algae than any other types of algae but also require supplemental foods such as plaster of Paris pucks, fish foods, veggies, etc.

Thankyou! Im planning to feed them algea wafers, fish food, veggies, and lettuce. Sound good?
Now the hard part......... Deciding what colors I want lol! I might do ivory color, or gold, or the blue, haha im trying to decide which colors will pop out against the black sand and black backdrop :)

A snail that is actively moving around and has a shell that doesn't have holes or shell erosion.

thankyou!!!!! And do u think 4 would be a appropriate number for my tank? I was thinking mabey two ivory, one gold, one blue would look good. Oh and what is a resonable price for one?

$2.00 or less is a good price here for one.

Four will be fine.

I'm guessing you already know this, but Apple Snails not only get quite large, but they also tend to stop eating Algae after they get to a certain size... at least that was what happened in my experiences both in the past, and currently...

Oh and also if you plan on keeping plants in the tank, then apple snails may not be the best bet, since they do have tendencies to eat plants in a tank... i remember the first time i got one and put him in my 25G, less than 3 days later i woke up to see a tank stripped bare of any plants... only the stalks were left in some cases...
