I have them too yellow ones :)sometimes they eat dead plant material but they have never eaten any live plants.

Rachel is correct. There are several species of apple snails. You have to note NOT all apple snails eat plants. Depends what species you have. Canas have often been confused with diffusas. Diffusas do not eat plants. Canas however do. Leave them in a planted tank overnight and next day, you'll see major difference in your tank.

also, they won't bother your bichirs but you need to be cautious about them getting injured on the filter intake. They tend to try and graze there as there are usually goodies stuck in the tube. They can get stuck easily and injured. You might consider a prefilter if you are going to try it.

Mystery snails prefer vegetation. Your bichirs should be fine. Be sure to leave 2 " of air space at the top of the tank for your snails to breathe. Here is more info.

The Mystery Snail (Pomacea Diffusa) will only eat dad or dying vegetation. However, there are other species of Apple Snails, that will turn your planted tank into a salad bar.
Here is an informational video to set the record straight.
