Nanay River Dorado, Nanay River Juruense, Piraiba & Tiger Shovelnose

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just as Wednesday13 says - place any TSN over light-colored bottom (lighter shades of concrete, sand, off-white liner, etc.) and you should expect something similar.

IDK how healthy it'd be for the fish though. My guess is not, but just a guess.

great info, I will wait for orincoense , if we can get a hold of them

if u can find a p. tigrinum same as the o.p. they have been the slowest growing ime... i have a 6-7yr old p. tigrinum thats still 20-24" and has lived in tanks over 1kgal most of his time with me. may just be a "dink"/runt from food production tho...

? There is no "we", is there? AFAIK, only you have been recently expressing a desire to hunt them.

Wed13 and I and plenty others I am sure would appreciate to know the details of your trying to procure an orino. If you are doing it actively, a thread would be kind of you, but only if you will.

are True P.tiginum rare? and if so why is that? what are the common TSN scientific names that we see for dirt cheap in the hobby.
fasciatum - >99% of all we get
reticulatum and tigrinum - the remainder <1%
corruscans - 3-5 times ever I came across people who got them, mostly in UK though
orinocoense (alleged) - once by Commanswoodwork from Jeff Rapps
nothing else

The first three are ~impossible to tell apart when small, easier when 1.5'-2'. These are what everyone carries and are, we suppose, the underperformers from the aquaculture industry - the culls, dinks, runts, mutants, etc.

Hence some attach higher value to wild caught but it's most usually that buyer must trust the seller's word who must trust the transshipper, who must trust the exporter, who must trust the fisherman. Tall order and too convenient a markup if you ask me. Hence, the prevailing scepticism.

Most reliable way to get a w/c is to work with Wes Wong, Jeff Rapps, and Co. - reputable guys who have their own fisherman in SA that work for them directly.

I didn't mean to say we, its just me lol, I will start a thread when I get some more info from those vendors you mentioned along with ECZS John, and Mark at discus origins. I have brought rare fish from all that has been mentioned and never been failed. Hopefully with all vendors on the chase for the hobby can locate some orino. will see

Sounds promising.

IDK much about John but Mark has a solid reputation, honest to the bone.

What did Jeff say? Is he out of them? How many had he sold? Can he / will he try to bring in more? You can answer these questions in your prospective thread. We are derailing this thread and this is a bad form.

very nice specimen o.p.! Is this a potential breeding group or offspring from ur work? any for sale lol?
At this time, they are too small for breeding, but we will potentially breed them in the future. We have them available from 8"-18". Thanks for your interest.
