I have juvenile group of black nasties (about 1-1.25 inches). I know they're omnivore and know they require more veggie so to bloat, from what I've read. I have spirulina flake and they won't even touch it.
Are there any other options to try. I also feed 1mm northfin cichlid pellet that's for omnivore and predator, but I'd like to add a bit more veggie since they're young.

Besides a good staple pellet like NLS Algaemax or NF Veggie I’ve always used these seaweed sheets with great success. I’ve tried a few different brands and I’ve never had anything turn these down. I just use a clip and the fish can graze throughout the day. The fish go hard on these. I’m sure you know that bloat isn’t just caused exclusively by diet as stress can play a major role.

Yea with incorrect diet and heavy stress, it'll definitely do it.

Thank you. Hey how long is the seaweed on a clip good for once in a tank?

They will last up to 24hrs. I tried to edit my first post but it wouldn’t allow me but I forgot to add I only use these during the fry to juvenile stage as otherwise it’s too expensive to try and feed large fish. I will still occasionally toss some chunks into my larger species tanks like lyonsi and melanura.

The 1st time I tried haitiensus, Ilost them all, they didn;t eat, and slowly faded, (I believe) because I kept them at too low a water temp, around 80:F.
After reading the article above, I realized in their natural habitat, mid to high 80s was best.
The next group, I raised the water temp to about 88'F, they became ravoness, and did well.

Soon after, they did well, but constantantly tried to kill each other even at only 2", so I sepatated them with egg crate ( I believe there were 6, each with its own compartment) in a 6 ft tank, and they did well.
After I notice a female and male start up cozy up, removed all the rest, and the pair contined a mongmians relationship, spawning in the tank mor about 5 years.
The male hit about 15", female remained a few inches smaller

I have the temp at 82. I read they can thrive from low to high 80s

I've had luck with raising and breeding at 83f. I've found temp to be the issue with losing this species mine eat anything and are happy.
I have the temp at 82 right now. I tried throwing some 1mm veggie pellets in there last night, just a few pellets, and they didn't seem interested yet I saw grazing algae off fake plants.
