I put them all in my 90 to see which female would end up with him. Of course, it was the smallest one. She happens to be the meanest one of the three females. She had her jaws locked with one female and was keeping the male and other female under control with her body and tail at the same time. It was funny to watch. I moved the other two females out of the tank and the pair has been digging up everything. Tubes starting coming down Friday and the female's appeared to be all the way down since last night. I still haven't seen any signs that they spawned yet. Hopefully, I'll have a surprise when I get home. The female he's with isn't the female that had laid eggs before. He ripped her face down to the bone while locking jaws with her. I had to separate them. That's why I tried the new approach.

Carefull jumping to conclusions, after the eggs disappeared with mine, it took almost a week for yoke sacks to be used up and free swimmers to appear.

They hide the wrigglers very well.

I added a clay pot on the other side of the tank and they seem to like that better than the flat stone they have. They are constantly at each other like in your second pic, except they go vertical and he pushes her upward. It's rather amusing to watch. It looks like they are yelling at each other the way they always have big open mouths.
