picked up a beautifull jag yesterday, about 6-7" slightly beat up if you can beleve that!! customer tried introducing jag to a large populated tank,... clerk didnt know existing species.. any how the tank rallied againist it, and basically cornered the beast...i would say it lost 1/4 inch of tail, andtips of pelvics, i put it in a 55 for now and am going to acquire at least a 90 for it, and itll reign the tank SINGLE SPECIMEN.....this species is bad, theres no sneeking up it, has no problem having staring and mouthing flashes with ME!! i picked up a "lurking" plant, and propped some slate, its settled right in!!!

ill post some pics later, would love some input from someone who has one, lfs sent me home with 10 feeders, they were gone by morning, is every other day a decent feed schedule for this predator, it doesnt even show a bulge after last nights dinner??:headbang2

I would keep the decor pretty much wide open as it sounds like you have done.

My Jag absolutely loves Krill as a treat 2-3x weekly, staple is Hikari Bio-Gold and Omega One pellets.

This fish is also extremely active 24/7 so watch yourself during water changes, and go with a stainless steel heater if possible or some sort of protector for glass thermometers.

Good Luck and lets see some pics

Beautiful Jag.

thats interesting you mention watching yourself justin, i added those plants today and it seemed like he was sizing me up, didnt move fast, just positioned itself TO keep a CLOSE eye on me i definitely felt as though he was in striking range though the whole time, hope you like the pic.

that's exactly what all of mine have done, since i have started keeping them, other then very young juviniles i have never had what i would call an "active jaguar". larger ones have been known to break glass heaters, i keep stealth heaters in all of my monster tanks because of this. also, there scientific name is parachromis, not nandopsis anymore. also don't feed feeders, they'll harm your fish, try to feed pellets instead.

also, i'd like another pic, but from this pic i'm going to say it's a female, if that is the case, you'll only need a tank with a 48"x18" footprint if it will be a single specimen. so even a 75 would be alright.

Her are pics of my Jag :Mango:
