Hey mAri,

How big of a tank do these guys need? What kind of aquascape, substrate, temp, water conditions? I can't find out really any info on these guys. Thanks in advance.

at the least a solo male will need a 75 gallon, last tank i had them in was a 160 gal. whatever substrate you use, get ready to see it pushed to all edges of the tank and they enjoy clean water...

Ouch...you would think it would be aight from bloat at that size.....Odos are super sensative to bloat from what I have heard though...specially at a young age. that really sucks. There was a VERY NICE one at the ACA this year.....awesome fish! But yours kicks it toosh...urs had crisper white/black definition...lol....

Yes, very nice fish. I have been looking at pictures of them and reading about them wondering is it possible to raise one of them with other cichlids in a 300 gallon tank?

peanut, got any pics or links to share of the Odo from the recent ACA?

cichlidfever, you'll never know 'til you try... IMO i think it is possible in a tank that size... my fish was never all-out aggro tho he would make it known who was boss in the tank and ripped up some dithers in the process... a breeding pair is another story i would imagine

loubard, nope... but i know some people that've spawned this cichlid around here...

Here's pics of my guys I got. I paid 26 dollars for 6 shipped.

nice fish, havnt seen many with humps like that.

what were you feeding it?

ive got a 5" male right now, he's growing like a weed. i'm trying a higher protien diet (krill, bio-gold, meal worms, small fish) this time and it seems to be working for me, no bloat in any of the 9 i started off with, ive had them since 1" (gave away some and he killed the others). the spirulina diet didnt work for me and they didnt grow at all last time i tried growing these guys out.

did you add salt to the water?
