Not nearly the first or last time humans have tampered with nature.

Isn't fish keeping in general tampering with nature?

Yes but we aren't trying to change their complete body genetics and makeup! I mean what's up with the jellyfish DNA?! Who could think of that?

Not true sea jellies. I believe the GFP (green fluorescent protein) gene is from the comb jelly. (Not a true jelly since it lacks stinging nematocytes.)

i first saw "glo fish" for sale in a cabelas magazine a few years ago, they were minnows injected with the jelly gene and were used for walleye in deeper water. the one you guys are talking about though is a zebra danio w/ the genes, if i had a chance i'd probably buy a couple, i don't see the difference between a glo fish and a something like a blood parrot, mollies or other weird fish hybrid.

The project was originally designed to insert marker genes for medical purposes. the fish used were medakas, then danios. The project was successful and the fish were then marketed to the pet trade to recupe some of the money invested. As hor being against nature it is not much different than raising blood parrots and other hybrids, triploid trout or grass carp, or for that matter the variant forms of many fish such as celestial goldfish or longfin bettas. Neither of those are viable in nature.
If you don't like them, just don't buy them.

aren't blood parrots humans tampering w/ nature, in a "natural" way. glofish are cool but yeah, watch them mutate into man eating monsters down the road. i've also seen pics of glowing pigs... and, we're already drinking milk from cows genetically altered to grow smaller but produce more. we're eating meat from cloned animals. the list goes on and on.
