After weeks of poor planning I've finally managed to bring a styro and some bags fishing with me. Hoping to catch l.auritus (redbreasts) and nicer l.cyanellus (green sunfish) specimens, maybe fundulus diaphanus if I can find some. I would want more g.holbrooki but I think I have enough.
Example of an l.cyanellus from the lake I fish:
Not sure what they're feeding on exactly but I notice them hunting mosquitofish and catching bugs at the surface, regardless they have the most blue I've seen so hoping to catch small ones to grow out.

Very underated fish imo. Green sunfish are honestly like a hard water version of an Oscar. Personable, very hardy and willing to eat most everything ya toss their way. The best thing about these guys is that they only reach about half the size of a fully grown Oscar, so a 75-80g is perfect size for one of these guys. Lol no need to bust out the 120g, granted bigger is always better.

Semi successful trip, no fundulus in sight and no gambusia, I didn't have enough time to get to my redbreast spot but I did get some very pretty green sunfish. Here's some I released, mind you I released the ones that weren't to my standard of beauty to put that into perspective of how pretty the ones I kept are.
I think I might've caught something of interest, something I personally haven't seen before, I caught a pair of VERY dark green sunfish with purple ears instead of orange. I'll get pictures of what I kept when I get home.

Could very well be a seperate species of sunfish. Pics will help. What tank are they going in?
Nope, just green sunfish but they're almost black with bright blue spots and purple ears. They'll be going in a 50 gallon tub pond for now and I'm selling off a few. I'm definitely keeping the two big pairs I caught and the super colorful one I caught.

If you want smaller ones and it's legal in your state, they can be quite easy to catch with a dip net. Same for the banded killifish you are looking for.

Welp they're super faded ofc and not showing color ??
Got them in the pond for now and moved my gambusia out of the way but in the meantime yknow
I'll get pictures tomorrow
Also I wouldn't put them in a planted tank, ime cyanellus is the one species that seems to have an actual hatred for plants. I've seen small non spawning ones just swim up to an entire reed and take it down.
Unless it's just things like anacharis and hornwort that aren't actually planted.
Here's the purple eared male faded though

Nice lil color mutation ya got there. Don't find those in the wild all too often. Think the only mutation I've ever seen caught personally was a channel cat that was born with no anal fin. My dad caught it while fishing so many years ago and never seen one since.

Posted this picture already but I forgot to mention another thing I haven't seen is orange fins in green sunfish. I caught 3 like this, selling two, I think this picture is actually the one I kept for myself. I may also sell my normal colored pair too. Gonna quarantine for a month first though
