In the caiman den
Any ids?? The lizard was similar to a skink. Fast as well, no real teeth. The other has external gills and a slightly red head. It was caught about mid level in a water fall in a semi still pond. Water is freaking cold. Trust me, i climbed straight up the middle of that damn waterfall. Twas awesome:grinno:. Found is adams county PA

I also caught today a box turtle(crossing the road, let him go somewhere safe) a black snake and sadly found a timber rattler just after it got hit seconds before i got there:(

I am leaning more towards a broad headed skink. When 5 lined skinks are that size they still have a blue tail. The closest thing I could find for the other one is a dusky salamander but I am crap with IDing them so double check me.

I've never seen a male 5-line with a blue tail and I've caught a lot of them over the years. Here's a bunch of pics I took of at least 3 different male Five-lines and none of them have a blue tail.

Even females end up losing it after a few years.

Here's a young yearling male still with his blue tail.

I really doubt it's a Broadhead because they're found more in the eastern part of the state and are usually found in trees. Also the head on the skink in the photo doesn't look enlarged enough to be a Broadhead.

the 5 lined skinks here get very large before they ever lose their blue tail, I have even seen gravid ones still with their Juvie coloration.
Here a a shot of a gravid female that is a good 6-7 inches There must be a difference in the ones you have compared to the ones I see.

I have not seen them with the blue tail myself...I see those guys all the time in my yard.

Anywho, I think a better picture is in order to make a good determination. Where's the pics of the dead rattler?

imo five line skinks have a more streamlined head than the one in the pic also i have never seen (or heard of a five lined skink not having a blue tail

Where did you take all them?? This is the first time iv ever seen one of these esp since i was way up in the woods. They seem like they would be an awesome native to keep. It was a really cool find. The one i found was on a log crossing water.

The newt or whatever has a slightly red head if that helps

Pis, i didnt take pics since the head was smashed flat. It only had 3 button rattle. Where i was at they are pretty scarce so i was quite sad to find one dead.
