yes, very light brown, even color over entire body. im thinking slender madtom but i could be wrong.

Slender madtoms live very far away from you. Again, I understand you don't have a photo but we really could use some help here.....

Location?
Substrate?
Were they found in vegetation/leaves/branches?

Try to provide as much specific information as you can.

Drecon.....If I give you a beer what will I get? (besides a glass full of air)

Well, last Friday it was vandalism, larceny, blood, and sexual harassment. Boy it was a fun night.

*edit - Only 2 out of the four if less than 20 beers.

thank you i now believe they are tadpole madtoms. caught em in a shallow grassy corner of the lake, probably in mud and debris.

I feel it important to note that there are well over a dozen species of madtoms and while most are small they do come in range of sizes.

Acipenser brevirostrum (shortnose sturgeon) is the only endangered fish species in NJ.

Stonecats can get up to 12" long :)
