of course not... im hurt knowing you think that

there doesnt seem to be many native marine keepers here on MFK, which is a shame as 'native' doesnt just have to mean fresh water natives. i think temperate SW species should be included in the fun to.

and thanks for the compliment on my animals. god knows ive put enough time/effort into my tanks, its about time i got some praise :)

Very nice tank! I've been wanting to get into native SW setups, but I'm just too poor and too far from the sea right now.

Natives are natives im my book, its more about what you enjoy, and can afford, and what you do with that, I went thru the saltwater keeping reef and all and enjoyed every minute of it, I now keep just North American Natives, But still enjoy seeing and hearing about yours. Its the best of all worlds , you get the cost, i get the enjoyment of your efforts, so PLEASE keep posting and bringing us those beautiful tanks and animals :)

 thanks... i think... i didnt think that setup was expensive. all together, it cost less than £50. i paid £40 for my fluval 4+ internal... most people up my way pay double that when they go out on the ale. so instead of goung out, i set up a tank, put the tunes on, went to the supermarket for a crate of beer, sat back, and enjoyed my work... with an extra £30 in my back pocket.

remember equiptment doesnt always have to be bought. it can be begged, borrowed, or stolen as well.

There is a native salty here called the Tripletail and I wanted one since I first saw pictures of it.I would appreciate it if anyone has any info on this fish,I am slowly getting out of salt but one of these could put a stop to that.

I did a little research on those guys and decided I would be unable to keep them. Tripletails get big (to 36" and 50 lbs). I believe a few public aquaria keep them in giant community tanks, but I haven't heard of any private citizens keeping them.

You have a tank large enough to keep a fish that gets up to 50 lbs. Impressive, im jealous

No, I don't. I found a juvenile and was considering taking him home until I read more about him.

good man... at least you did your research. it sucks when you find a fish you cant keep. especially if you really want to. its a nice fish too. it sorta looks like a leopard bush fish (Ctenopoma acutirostre). you could keep one of them in a marine/mangrove decorated tank. but not as good as the real thing...

i think cold water marine tanks work better as a rockpool environment... as most cold/temperate water marines i want to keep just get too big. or the animals require much more space than the average home fishkeeper can provide. in my case, the biggest aquarium i could provide would be 5ft x 1.5ft x 2ft. and the issues of filtration and lighting just boggle the mind. so i think smaller, heavily stocked, but well filtered aquariums are the answer.

there is a huge amount of life in even the smaller pools, and the fish normally stay smaller too. if you know what your looking for, it is possible to have a small ecosystem, in stead of a big animal picking off your livestock. unless that is, your willing to suffer the consiquences of keeping truly monster fish. and basically being the guinea pig for the rest of the fish keeping community, as info on cold water marines in general is basically non existant.

but if you think about it. all the native fish keepers are paving the way for for all the other fish keepers. its been done before yes, but not revisited as much as it should have been. the same applies to brackish keepers. keeping brackish animals is a dark art. and should be done by more people. many brackish fish are still sold as freshwater, and suffer slow deaths as people are uninformed of the specific environment the animals need to survive. brackish is anywhere from 1.002 sg to 1.019sg. thats a big spectrum with a huge margin for error.

rant over... im done. and only slightly off topic:)
