Native Ohio Fish ID

I guess they're supposed to be, but I've never caught one, and I've seined and netted a whole lot. They might be in some specific place, but obviously I must not know where that is.

Hmmm, apparently I need to net specifically in the upper subbasin of the black river.

This site http://extra.mdc.mo.gov/fish/watershed/black/biotic/030bct09.htm shows that they were seined in 7% of sites in the lower and 51% in the upper.

You can see how much more prevalent rainbows are since they were found at 29% of sites int the lower, and 69% in the upper. Those are what I catch more than anything.

Yes I'm aware. I've kept greens an log perch before

Sorry I usually get a little worried for people who post on the internet that they have caught a pet from the wild and dont know what it is....especially if its a darter or a madtom (since so many of them are endangered). In some states they have had conservation agents check online for people who keep and sell endangered or illegal pets.

Yeah I agree. And it's not complicated when its with darters. But I never take madtoms cuz it always changes and they mostly look the same.

I dunno about that. The few endangered darters you have there pretty much look like some of the more common ones in the net. Especially the females.

Madtoms are easy for me to ID, but I know a lot of people have trouble with them. And lucky for me there is only one endangered madtom in the region I net, and it's easily distinguishable from the ones I'm familiar with.
Luckily most of our fish populations are pretty healthy here too.

Well the reason madtoms are hard for me is because the laws always change. Plus here in Ohio we have a few species which are only found in certain streams. I'm pretty good with my darters because I love them so much. Here is a pic of an older one I used to have.
