Woah, those links were very helpful. I found a little stream by my grandmother's house and planned to spend a few hours there prior to thanksgiving dinner, but now that you brought up state regulations, I'm a little worried. I highly doubt that the feds will be on security there, esp since it'll be thanksgiving day and the fact that the stream is off of a slightly secluded walking path. Do you know who I could contact in order to see if it's protected or not? I don't have a tank for anything I catch, but if it's worth it I could go pick up another heater and makeshift a tank with a hob filter in a plastic tub. I'm mainly there just for some research and documenting for later explorations.
