Get a mini fridge off of craigslist for next to nothing. Go to home depot and buy a long length of hose. Drill two holes in the side of the mini fridge. Coil up as much hose as you can fit in there. Stick the two ends out through the holes. Attach a power head to one end of the hose and put the other end in the tank. Plug in the powerhead and fridge and watch your poor man's chiller come to life.

yeah their colors look better when the lights go off and they start swimming around more do you think once they get used to it there colors will be good even with the lights on? they have only been in the tank for 3 days and they are wild caught next thing is getting them to eat i heard crappies are hard to get eating my two white crappies are fine ive had them for a while tho

haha damn thats a good idea! thanks man if i decide i need a chiller on there i will defiatly do that thanks i used to have a mini fridge to but got rid of it because i thought i would never use it haha

Well I'd just keep the lights off until they start eating. Once they start eating go ahead and turn the lights back on. What are you using for a substrate? If rocks what color?

Have you actually tried this yourself? Because I've heard from several people that this is a very inefficient setup...the fridge ends up running constantly and uses a lot of electricity, and then ends up burning out early.

Very cool looking tank! The pool filter sand looks really cool but I think that is why the fish are not showing any color. The light is reflecting off of the sand causing your fish to become stressed out because there is so much light on them IMO. If you switched to a black sand or darker substrate I think your fish would be less stressed and show more of their colors.
