Native Tank Update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree, the perch in the plants pic looks great ! I got all my sunfish eating flakes, and I wasnt trying to either lol. I had some rosy reds stored there till time for them to be fed to the other tanks and I fed them their flakes one night and my sunfish started hitting the flakes like it was live food, looked cool tho! Lol

I have fed mine and mixture of live bait, beef heart and pellets, over a short period i stopped the bait and started making less beefheart and more pellets until it was only pellets, a great place to pick up pellets is from a fish farm that way they get all the good stuff to keep them healthy and great looking, like your fish.

i had the same issue with my bass. he would eat shrimp pieces but not pellets for some reason. could never get him to eat pellets so if anyone has suggestions to get wild caught fish to eat pellets we are all ears
They only seem to eat Fat-heads right now... or at least they ate the ones that were in the tank. :D

I managed to get my bluegills, green sunfish and brown bullhead to eat HBH Super Soft Sinking pellets. Brown bullhead wasn't eating at all prior, not even worms!!! I tried other brand pellets and other fish foods without success. I have never had any fish that didn't eat the Super Soft Pellets. All types of my fish have relished these pellets. If you try them, drop a few at a time.
Well, I got the Bluegill, Green, and Bullhead to eat pellets, flakes, etc. But that is mainly because I have had them for a few months now. The Bass and Perch are new, as well as two Crayfish that refuse to stop eating the plants. :irked: :grinno:

Thanks for the tips, I'll have to give it a try. ;) Better than doing nothing, lol.

I was doing a little research on the Natives in WI, and I came across a pic of a Black Crappie juvie, and it took me a second, but I realized I had one! lol, I've had him since November when I decided to go fishing on a dark, cold, windy day. There were large school of these guys slowly moving down the river, and I had no clue what they were. Thought it was just a Bluegill all this time. Can't wait until he gets larger. :D

Thank you, and there hasn't been any issues yet that I've seen. ;)

Any tips on getting the Bass to eat pellets? (...Starve them?)
I would soak Hikari gold cichlid sticks in water and cod liver oil for a few minutes then tease them like it was a cricket or gammarus and they would just tear them up, after a while I didnt have to tease them anymore.

Sorry if I'm "reviving" this thread but I have a 5" Lmb that eats pellets egarly. I first got him to eat freze dried shrimp when I was feeding worms to until I slowly cut off giving him worms so he ate the shrimp then I slowly replaced shrimp with pellets and Now he loves to eat pellets. They are a pain to transfer to live food but its worth it in the end (save some $ :D)
