Natives with Turtles

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i had two RES 8" and 9". They were kept with a large mouth, two dempseys, two parrot fish, and a red terror..... i always set a minnow trap and then drop in VERY LARGE creek chubs and crawdads..... the turtles never bothered my fish but would chase the chubs all over the tank until they finally wore them down and then would eat them.... same with the crayfish..... keep them well fed and you should have no problems.. the turtles make the tank very interesting and appealing to guests

So could I keep a mud or musk turtle in my 125g as long as it has a way of getting air?

you would need a basking spot, heat lamp over the basking spot, and UVB/UVA lamp

The Little Stink Pot Turtles work out really well, not even needing to come out of hte water to bask, i've kept them for many years....

What about a stinkpot?

ohhh man idk. lol i havent rlly worked with turtle much. im getting into them now! so tell me how much u pay for him! im looking into one of those ATM. go look at prices. and eastern painted turtles are awsome but you need a basking spot.

I actualy used to have an eastern painted, he lived with a juvinile green sunfish. He would try to eat the fish, but the fish would attack him first. It eventualy ended up with the 6in turtle trapped in a corner by a 2in sunfish. I'm just not sure about the stinkpot in the 125g because I know they dont swim very well.

up until recently i had 2 RES with a large mouth bass, 2 jack dempseys, 2 parrot fish, and a red terror. All were fine together and i constantly fed them minnows, creek chubs, and crawdads, but they never attacked any of my other fish. I highly advise keeping turtles with fish because they really bring a fish tank to life.

Here is a stupid question, would a fish ever eat a turtle? I don't think a sunny could pull it off, but I imagine a large bullhead might take a shot at a small turtle. Thoughts?
