Natrual Filter

That's where I heard this before...Didn't Grand Pa have an idea to run the pond without filtration and using electricity?

You know if you look at bass ponds, there is no electricity, no filtration, just bodies of water...

Look at the Arowana earthen ponds in the far east, they raise and breed prize, expensive, fish in...

All you need to do is keep adding water to freshen it up...
and let nature take it's course...

How close are the ponds? You said the other pond has power so can you run a water wheel in the powered pond and gear that to another wheel in the other pond to move the water? You know those decorative wheels that continue to turn as each cup fills... Water powered. Just a thought...

Oh and since you in LA, outdoor plants will beat any filter any day and you not using anything but sun.

(Unless you have a sun bill, then forget that idea)

So what did you think of the idea of the bass pond method?
Am liking it butttttttt am using snaping turtles and those guys are nasty eaters, but i'll try it out that means every saturday ill do a water change but i'll also try my bioball method(at the same time), but how much of a mess can a snapping turtle and some XL feeders ganna do???so it should be fine i'll try it out. or i was thinking allgiator snapping turtle:naughty:

If your granpa is rich and cheap he probably got that way for a reason, learn from him while you can... Seriously dude, use plants. There is no way you adding bioballs is going to provide more surface area for bacterial growth than a pond already has (like Ben is suggesting). Plants in addition would be more than sufficient. They consume ammonia directly avoiding the nitrogen cycle all together (unlike bioballs) so water changes are not nearly an issue. Just top off.
