I've been doing some research on how some aquarium hobbyist use pool filter sand.
I was wondering what are your opinions on pool filter sand. Pros and Cons? Should I or why I shouldn't? Thank you!

I have pfs in my 180 and playsand in my 65. I cant imagine the storm that would be kicked up if it was the other way around.! The look of itbis always gonna be personal preference, but from a practical sense its very good. Mine was more expensive than the playsand, but cheaper than if I bought lfs sand.

The only con w/ pfs is you have to go to a pool supply store..... awesome substrate w/ heavier particles that don't get sucked up in the filter. W/e you decide rinse well.

I recently switched my 75 gallon from aquarium gravel to pool filter sand and I love it. I think every new set up from now on will be pool filter sand.

Got a 100 gallon with cichlids, used pfs. Cost me 10 bucks for 50 pounds, just enough to cover my 100 gallon. Great Stuff, has been awesome so far, make sure to rinse throughly though in a bucket to remove all the dust particle or your tank will be cloudy for a while.

I use PFS in all my tanks except my breeding racks I love it. Looks great cleans easily and cheap to boot 10 for 50 lbs here to. Much larger grains so when rinsed well it falls back down and doesn't stay suspended like play sand IME.

I've used both but was not a fan of either. Playsand was to dirty and annoying to clean. PFS was only sold in one color, it was ugly and just didnt do much for me so I got rid of that too lol. I ended up going with 3M quartz instead (they don't have this anymore but you can get colorquartz its the same thing). I love quartz - it looks like sand- you can pick the size you want as it comes in different sizes, many color options, it doesn't float. It sinks right away when its disturbed and it doesn't get into my filters like lfs sold sand did. It was really easy to clean.
