A number of them grew undisturbed under the radar, not targeted by anglers at all. Once in a while one of these huge perch in summer would rise for the fly of the unsuspecting fly fisherman causing all sorts of mayhem that these predators could be in the midst of their beloved trophy trout.
In fact there is a trout reservoir in Wales which is now full of record monster pike thanks to it being taken over by a trout fishery many years ago. The current British pike record comes from that very water.
