I would look below oak trees in your area for branches that have fallen. Make sure the branch is solid and not decaying. Bring it home and peel off the bark using a razor knife. Do not worry, it is easy and looks more natural than you would think when done. The oak will release tannins in the water too, which is good for the fish and natural to the SA fish. If you do not want your water tea colored, soak the wood for a few weeks with water changes every few days, and then if you still have a lot of tannins in the water while the wood is in the tank and you don't like the tea colored water, just add carbon to the filter.
