Does anyone know of a natural food for oscars that is beneficial towards there color and general health. I use pellets and feeder fish already. I'm looking for other things to supplement between live and take the place, if possible, of the pellets. I look forward to future responses.

You may get flamed posting here that you're giving off feeder fish. I'm tellin ya, be prepared.

For the OP's question, some chopped up earthworms, crickets, mealworms (both gut loaded), Cichlid Gold Hikari, Good flakes, or some crushed snails,Frozen Peas, pretty much my friend you can't copy all the natural diet oscar's do eat. But you are ought to give variety of foods available in the market for your priced fish for it to be healthy and I'm sure of it that water quality comes in also as a important factor. Happy Fish Keeping!

No I use Rosies mostly. My oscars won't touch goldfish. I give them crawfish every now and then. My lfs has a special on tetras ever so often and I get them also. Like I was saying tho, I'm trying to improve there diet. So I'm asking for suggestions.

well still you should stay away from feeders, i know its fun to watch them eat feeders, but its not good for the fish, anyways i would say that earth worms, crickets and crawfish would be okay for live food and as for a good pellet i would either use NLS of Hikari (NLS is my fave)

Most of those feeders are kept in poor conditions and can be diseased.

Feeders are not bad, if they are the right kind of fish and raised by you. When you buy feeders from a lfs, they normally have parasites. Not to mention rosies are in thiamanese content which depletes your fish of vitamin D. Tank raised convict cichlids are great feeders and they breed a lot.
