Natural pond heating, no electricity

I know someone who did a HILLBILLY BATHTUB! It involved an old tub and a compost. I guess the compost gets hot as it decomposes. He ran a hose through the compost and circulated the water with an inline pump. Look into that *#%!!!

This is an even better idea. Compost definitely gets hot, and this way you can have heat both day and night. With my design, you can only have heat during the day. Only downside is you need to turn the compost once a day, and then keep adding biodegradable material.

I'm thinking about using a plastic troff instead and acing it in the ground. The only problem is cats, raccoons, and snakes eating the fish. But if it was in the ground then the filter tubes would be about 100' running underground to cool it in the summer and heat on the winter. The animals would be a huge issue though

Can you even use those metal ones for fish?

you dont have to, the reason you do is it gets to hot.

you could dig a 6inch deep part of he pond and lay down a black liner. it will heat the shallow part and should heat the pond. how hot? idk. but for added heat you can one of the pool covers.
