Yeah that would explain why I'm trying to do everything by using nature and gravity. Parents said they don't mind helping me put it together as long as I pay for it and it doesn't cost them anything to run it. And I'm on a very limited budget ($600 max.)
It would be a big experiment, those tropical fish need a fairly steady temp at least in the 70s...if you do try it, try it without the fish. I think you should try it, and if you can make it work in the next three years you would have something very awesome to put on your college applications, and possibly refine and sell.
Failing that, get yerself a job and help yer folks with the utility bills, with some left over for fish and/or girls.

My current plan is:
1) to have it half buried in the ground to gain heat from the ground and to keep snakes out
2) have 100' of pipe for the filter running underground to also help heat from the ground
3) have a clear plastic cover on top to help hold heat in
4) have a metal bucket off the ground next to the tank with water constantly flowing between the two and when the temp. gets to low, start a small fire below the bucket to heat the flowing water until the temp. is back up

It could work, I'd read a lot and make a more few designs. I would bury the pipe as deep as you can, from caving I can tell you that most caves once you get in them are right around 53F.....Do your fish a favor though and run it without fish for at least one winter and make sure you can keep the temp fairly steady.
