I have a planted angel+tetra tank that's up against a South facing window that receives indirect sunlight all day, and a few rays of direct sunlight for maybe an hour at the very end of the day. It's a 105 litre/28 gallon tank, with a single 24" 6700K T8 tube on top. The only visible algae in the tank is green spot algae that speckles the entire back glass and part of the side glass which gets the sun at the end of the day, which should be easy enough to scrub off when I get around to it. The water is crystal clear and the plants grow extremely fast, I cut out on average two ~30" watersprite fronds a week, no c02, just regular API Leafzone fertiliser. The tank is quite overstocked but with two or three 25% water changes a week on average, nitrate is kept at about 5ppm.
If I was setting up another tank with a significant number of plants in it, especially a large tank, I would consider placing it where it will receive a lot of indirect sunlight a necessity.
