The hole in the water is real. Not caused by nature, but real. It is a water overflow for a damn. if the water gets too high, it runs into the hole and out the other side.

The lake/reservoir in Utah that my family has fished at since before I was born has one that gets going about 3' across after a good rain storm, and talk about loud!

The thing used to scare the living crap out of me when I was real young!
