We are fortunate to live in a very beautiful place. The closest small mall is 1 1/2 hrs away. I excel at online shopping, so the lack of malls is a non-issue for me :)

Absolutely gorgeous!

Douglas fir at its full potential--a far cry from the little firs on Christmas tree lots The tree is on the far right in this picture.

I like that woodstove.

We like it too. It gets in the mid-80s when we load it up. Sometimes we have to open doors and windows if it gets too hot or we wear shorts and tank tops and pretend it's summer.
That's awesome.I have thought of installing something like that or a pellet stove in my basement but I understand the way that I would want it would not be up to code.

There are places where you cannot install a woodstove. The dry heat from our stoves is really nice. There are some downsides to heating with wood. The firewood is messy to deal with. We have three humidifiers running in our music room to get the humidity to 50%. In winter, we lose part of the view from our living room windows.

Do you guys collect your wood yourselves?

NO
We buy dry madrone and pine from two fellows and hire someone to stack the wood. It's a lot easier to feed the stoves than it is to start new fires every morning, so the stoves are stoked 24/7, unless it gets in the high 80s
