Hi all rays breeders, have problem keeping new born pups alive. Had tried several method of keeping new born pups but to no avail....:(

Our pups usually will start eating after entering into our world 2 or 3 days later. However, their skin will start to show deterioration later & all will stop eating. During this period of time, we will do some 5 to 10 % water change daily. Had tried leaving the pups in the pond using floating basin, but still same problem. Had tried UV, heater, etc, still the same.

So what is the best method?

i havent bred b4 but i think u should try to keep them in the same water the parents are in. a diff tank but same water.

Yes had tried that, but the same problem still come after 4 or 5 days. Usually our pond water NO3 is high at acceptable rate, dont know if this will also have effect on the pups?

Some breeders in Thai actually just throw the pups into a tank of complete new water, so any comments fr the experts?

increase your filtration and waterchange and maybe add some extra current

You could try setting a seperate tank that is fully cycled and not used for active fishkeeping.
Whole idea is to have perfect water condition (i.e. low to zero nitrates) for the pups. When pups are bigger and physically stronger, transfer them back to pond.

Sorta like an ICU tank for 1st month old pups.

the few i have talked have never mentioned a problem like this... there has to be a problem with your water...

I believe so also, thus asking for any method to make sure that the water is safe for the pups. Firstly, such problem is it arised rom bacteria inside the water? must identify the problem first b4 I can solve the problem. Thks for any comments.
