WOAH!! scare!

i'm glad you got it taken care of

Your right Steve, a very cool collection of fish, glad none got lost.:grinyes:

lucky man!! my bro had to feed my fish 1 night and being the moron he is he put in way to much beefheart...and when i got home i just went straight to bed, woek up and looked at my tank and hte water was murky as and all the fish were hovering near the top...i saved it but yeh twas a scary experience..

thanks all.

i just finished doing my second large water change the fish were really breathing heavy again this morning probably due to the high nitrates that were well over 100ppm.
it was definately the dat that brought all the food back up probably due to overeating and is now going to be on a strict diet and i am ging to target feed all the fish which will be hard but needs to be done.

well i fed my fish last night after a 40% waterchange and the datnoid gorged itself on whitebait, prawns and mealworms leaving very little for the other fish so i had to add more food which it along with the other fish eat.
so after i was happy everyone had eaten including my new ray i left the tank alone came here did some posting etc.
i went to bed and everything was ok and it was ok when i got up for work, when i came home the house was smelling funny and when i came into the living room i could see why as there was about 10-15 whitebait and loads of mealworms decaying on the tank floor.
the ray was lifeless floating the RTG was lying on the bottom, the dat was stuck vertical in the corner (and puking some more) and everyone else was breathing real hard and not moving.
i had to remove all the food asap which broke up all over the place and do a real quick 50% waterchange as well as keeping an eye on the new ray which was hardly moving and now on the bottom.
well so far after about 2 hours sorting the tank out the fish although breathing a little hard seem fine, i even test fed the ray some small peices of prawn which it and the tig have eaten.
all the fish are now swimming properly again and my water tests show 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 60-80ppm nitrate and a still very stable 7.0 ph.
i really think the fish would not have lasted much longer and i will do another 50% water change again tomorrow along with a 20% every other day for a week.
it does seem that my filters have recovered and have sorted the ammonia due to the amount of nitrate still present but i will be getting another large filter to add in june just incase as this was to close for comfort.

dixon
that was too close for comfort even for me but i keep a tiger oscar and a albino oscars

how are you going to target feed dixon?

well i sorta do it now by sliding the glass sliders into the middle of the tank and feed the aro and dat at each end dropping food in one piece at a time.
the ray will get much smaller pieces so the dat or aro will not bother with them and the tigrinus wil get food put under the wood directly where it is.
the dat must have eaten well over 20 whitebait, 5 prawns and 5 mealworms as it threw most of this back up.
