Congrats! Long time since Ive posted. Were did you get your wels? I've had the opportunity to raise one, they can handle cold and warm, in warm water, grows faster and they are very active at night.

I was able to hand feed mine fish filets, silversides, etc. They can jump so be careful, otherwise enjoy!!!
 
How did you hear about this? I also wonder where he got it from since I haven't seen any available recently. I guess I'll be watching for the new "official necrocanis wels catfish growth thread" lol. Seriously, I want to see pics! I've always loved those guys.

lol, wasn't expecting to see this thread. More to come!!! :) all part of my master plan. Couldn't pass it up once I found out there is a catch to the old ban everyone always qouted. So indeed knowing it was legal to own I got one. I have never owned a fish like this before. This catfish is in it's own league........and then they wait!!!

Ok so now I am gonna pick your brain as well lol. Do you still have the fish?

I have found some sound research into the growth rate and was wonder what your's was so i can compare to what I have found?

How aggressive was yours?

Do you know your water temps or params when keeping or current?

Mine seems very active at all times, not sure if this is the norm or if it is just being highly territorial due to the vulture cat constantly swimming by.

Remember I told you I might be getting a catfish even you do not have in Spring? Well that's not going to happen anymore :D
Joking of course.. I still wonder where you got it? Because you said you don't have the money for a goonch, which AFAIK is about as costly as a wels in the US?
Also I'd like to know how big of a tank your baby is going into.. After what you told me about the tank sizes recquired for this fish!:)

lol, well luck would have it that as soon as I put this monster in my tank my cam died!?! I am currently looking for a replacement, but do to this purchase I am low on funds so might be a few weeks/months. The cam on my phone, and on my laptop suck to say the least. I am uploading some vids to my youtube. I was trying to do mega research and set up a great thread. So no one was the wiser, but since it got revealed ahead of schedule you will all just have to wait longer lol.....

lol, I don't want to hear it from you. You live in Germany, I'm sure it's like 10x as easy for you to get one. Wes had these guys on his list for a few months and I have been milling over it. The albino he has is way too big, and way too expensive for me to get or I'd have that one lol. There are huge plans for this fish in the works. based on my research I have some time yet before I will need a mega upgrade. This is after all a slower growing giant. I find it strange how slow some of the largest fish grow. Being kept at 78 currently and active during the day as well.
 
Lucky Wels - I'm sure it will be well taken care of!

Haha yes I could probably get a 5 footer for the price you paid, but I'd need to get rid of my current fish if I wanted one :(
Plus the fact that you have access to Flatheads :mad: :banghead:

Definately looking forward to what you have planned for this fish - I know you are dedicated enough to give it an appropriate home :)
