As some people know, my sen just died this morning... :(... Having my exam done, I had the time to 'investigate' the possible cause of death (which IMO is def the spine curvature). I am no expert so I did the way i think it would work.

Here's the link for the issue: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=370473

And here are the necropsy pictures:

Spine curvature. Noticed no tumor.

Upon palpation. The spine DOES feel curved.

So yeah... I think the spine curvature is pressing on his vital organs, which probably caused the fatality... :(

Wow kinda hard to cut open ur own fish wasnt it?.. But kinda worth it to see for sure what happened.. GJ...and sorry for ur loss..did he always have it?

Thanks Rayshot1. It was extremely hard! Same as deciding to euthanize or not to... (I was to late for that). My heart was pumping so hard, even just touching his dead body =(. And cutting through his hard scale doesn't help lol. He kinda had it for a ever since. He started to show it in about a month or 2 when I first got him. He was 13 months when he died.

I saw a gator gar with this and told the employee ( he was at a LFS) that he was probably going to die. That was a year ago lol. He has even grown like 10 inches. He's in the shape of a hockey stick kind of like your poly.

No point to that just thought I'd share. XD

lol a hockey stick. my poly was almost like that. I can probably use a moss ball as a puck hehe :nilly:

lol sorry that you lost your poly. They are great fish.

Ropefish? Related to bichirs and very, very cool fish.

Sounds cool. Still have to research for that. I may not have enough room though. I only have a 40 gallon right now (I know i should get something bigger lol)

PS.. i just noticed that we could edit posts... didn't know that lol. i believe it only last for some minutes?

Ropefish would be fine in a 40 gallon. Although they get long they are very slender and do not get very large. Plus they bend in half so don't need a lot of room to turn.
