it can't hurt to dump the water out once every other day or so... stressed fish excrete alot of ammonia

All I have to keep fish in IS buckets!! lol

Seriously, as long as the fish isn't too big and dirty, should be ok. When I only had 1 tank, I had a really, really mean Pseudotropheus zebra that was killing everything. He lived in a 10 gallon bucket for almost a year (I was young and really liked him, but wanted to keep my other fish).

Funny thing though...my buddy really wanted him, and one day I broke down and gave it to him, thinking I would at least give him to a better home. Died a week later...

I have kept 8-9” fish in nets that are 10”x 7” for weeks with no problems at all. I think that the brand name for this particular net is “Ulti-Net” ($7 by mail), but you can use any pond net or similar. Just bring the net inside the tank, keep the handle out (trapped by the aquarium top door), put your fish inside, and forget about water changes and nitrogen sub-products build up…

You will not believe this bastard! I did leave a little opening, perhaps 2" on the side... in the middle of the night I hear my dog just barking in my room I run up and see this ****er flipping on the floor. Grabbed him and threw him back in... he seems alright but this bastard still managed to jump out! :swear:

Hope it's alright. It really made good use of the opportunity with the 2inches.
