Chocolate cichlids. Drab when young and through young-adulthood, but they bloom into random, awesome colors when adults. Large, bulky, and very peaceful.

True Parrots, Green Terrors, Bocourti, Pearsei, and Vieja are all other large, colorful species that really shouldn't bother smaller tankmates.

That's assuming that I read wrong and you're not planning on housing whatever fish you get alone with a jaguar...

If you decide to go the festae route, I would recommend getting multiple juveniles and ensure that they are the smallest fish in the tank. Unless the cichlids can fit the festae into their mouth, the tank mates won't stand a chance in tormenting these terrors. The female festaes are generally more aggressive when they are young and the males may or may not become more dominant later down the road. A male or female festae will make a great centerpiece fish if they are kept with a durable stock in a big tank.
