Need A ID on this Flowerhorn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
black markings on top fin usually is a sign of female. SRD means super red dragon

But there are cases where even males have that right? The aquarium guy told me it's a male :banghead:

Errrmm never trust the aquarium people. Most/Not if all lie to you to get a sale as many lfs are going out of business or barely staying open. All in all if you like the fish it shouldn't matter. Good starter fish for getting into flowerhorns.

ps Don't get the head growth crap or hormone stuffed foods. Just feed it a good stable food as hikari or nls (new leaf spectrum). No food will make your fish grow a bigger hump or better colors. Its 90% genes and 10% water changes,quality/food. If you have a high grade master piece and feed it crappy its going to be red as a apple and a hump that huge. A low quality fh will be a low quality fh no matter the crap you feed it. But a low quality fish isn't a bad thing. Good luck with your fh!

Bulging eyes + rounded forehead + prominent marking on head + shorter upper lip + small tail = zz (red dragon). I'd say male based on body shape (weight centered towards the chest) and length of the dorsal/anal fin trailers

Thanks for all the info guys... I got the fish cause I really like it's attitude... Follows my finger around and jumps real high when I put my finger above the tank :) real active and playful fish.

Some people telling me male and some telling me female.. Well I'll just have to wait a lil longer...

I just bought the ocean free xo humpy head  should I feed it?
Right now I feed it beef heart and blood worms...

My advice is to feed it 'enhancers' once a day every other day three times a week and a good stable pellet 2-3 times a day for the remaining days.
