Need a Little Help Sexing a Festae and Convict

Festae looks female due to the black on the dorsal fin, imo the con in question is a male.

yeah, kinda. The thing is that I have another that is about the same size and until recently I though male due to the absence of red and the blue spangles. Now all of the sudden it's colors are popping as well. I'm starting to thing that it's an adolescent phase and that once it passes their sex traits will be displayed more clearly.
I guess it's obvious that I'm no expert at sexing juvenile Festae.

i see no black at all in the dorsal???? are you looking at the right fish. it's in the first set of photo's

lol nah all input is good man i'm no expert either. these are the first festae i've ever owned. they are renowned for being hard to sex!

That last one is a female. I have never seen a male with that much color.

The first one you asked about on here is a Male IMO.

I would vote female on the festae not enough spangling for its size. looks just like my female.

Mine are at the same stage now.
This is the largest<and reddest>of the bunch so I'm inclined to say female but I don't think one can be certain until 6" or so.

Sometimes they will fool Ya up till 5-6".This one looks male in this pic.

it's obvious which convict is the definite female but what do you guys think of the sex of the other one. it's about 2" and has no colour on it which leads me to believe it's a male, however the shape indicates a female.

also can anyone sex this festae? it's around the 4" mark

Too small to say for sure but looks more female at this point.Another " or so and Ya'll be able to tell for sure.

fair enough. that is what is putting me off with the sexing as it has very minimal spangling.

i agree. i've put all the cons together in my 7' tank and his hump on his head grew almost immediately lol. DEFINITE MALE
